Yes. FASTag has been mandatory for all 4-wheelers on National Highways in India since February 16, 2021 (NHAI mandate). Vehicles without a valid or sufficiently funded FASTag are charged double the applicable toll fee when using FASTag-only lanes. This includes cars, SUVs, vans, minibuses and all light motor vehicles.
Your FASTag wallet is credited within seconds of successful payment via Abhieo's direct NETC API connection. In rare peak-load cases it can take up to 15 minutes. Your toll deductions will work immediately once the balance is reflected. If not credited within 30 minutes, contact our support at wecare@abhieo.in with your transaction ID.
Minimum FASTag top-up on Abhieo is ₹100. Maximum per transaction is ₹1,00,000. Your bank may have its own minimum balance requirement (typically ₹200 for SBI FASTag). There is no daily cap on Abhieo's end, but your bank or UPI payment method may have daily transaction limits.
No. Abhieo charges absolutely zero transaction fees on all FASTag recharges. You pay exactly the amount you want to top up — nothing more. This is Abhieo's core promise across all services: ₹1,000 topped up = ₹1,000 in your FASTag wallet.
Yes. You can recharge FASTag for any vehicle — your own, family members', or a fleet vehicle — by entering that vehicle's registration number. This is especially useful for fleet managers handling multiple vehicles, or for families where one member manages FASTag recharges for everyone.
FASTag is a passive RFID sticker affixed to your vehicle's windshield, issued by a bank and linked to a prepaid digital wallet. When you drive through a toll plaza, an overhead RFID reader scans your FASTag sticker and automatically deducts the exact toll amount from your linked FASTag wallet — no stopping, no cash, no change required. You receive an SMS confirmation immediately. The wallet needs to be kept topped up for uninterrupted travel.
If your FASTag wallet has insufficient balance, the toll system will flag your vehicle. You will be charged double the toll fee at FASTag-only lanes. If your balance is zero or the tag is blacklisted, you may be turned away or asked to use a cash lane. This is why Abhieo's low balance AI alert — triggered at 72 hours before your predicted highway trip — is critical. Always keep a minimum of ₹500 in your FASTag wallet before long-distance highway travel.
You can check your FASTag balance via: (1) Your bank's FASTag app or website, (2) SMS alerts after every toll deduction, (3) NHAI's official portal at fastag.ihmcl.com using your vehicle number, (4) The Abhieo app — enter your vehicle registration number to fetch live balance from NETC instantly. Balance is also shown on SMS after every toll transaction from the NETC system.
FASTag is linked to both — a specific vehicle (via its registration number) AND a specific bank-issued prepaid wallet. Each FASTag sticker has a unique RFID code registered against your vehicle number in the NETC database. The wallet is managed by your issuing bank. One vehicle = one active FASTag. If you buy a new car, you need a new FASTag registered to that vehicle's number.
No. Each FASTag is registered to a specific vehicle registration number and can only be used in that vehicle. Using a FASTag in a different vehicle is not permitted and may result in penalties. For multiple vehicles, you need a separate FASTag for each vehicle. However, you can recharge FASTag for all your vehicles from a single Abhieo account — just enter each vehicle's registration number.
In case of a failed recharge (Abhieo's success rate is 99.97%), your payment is automatically refunded to the original payment method within 2–4 hours. The amount never gets debited without a successful top-up confirmation. If your payment shows debited but FASTag is not credited within 30 minutes, contact Abhieo support at wecare@abhieo.in with your transaction ID and vehicle number. Resolution is guaranteed within 24 hours.
You can get a FASTag from: (1) Your bank's branch or website — most major banks including SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Kotak issue FASTags for free or with a one-time security deposit of ₹200–₹500, (2) NHAI's Point-of-Sale locations at major toll plazas, (3) Amazon, Flipkart and Paytm Mall for select bank FASTags. Once you have the physical sticker, activate it via your bank's app and stick it to the inner top-centre of your windshield. After activation, recharge it on Abhieo instantly.
